Pigs in Minnesota may have contracted H1N1 virus

Three pigs that were displayed during the Minnesota State Fair have tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus, health officials said Friday. “This, of course, may be the first indication that it is present in some swine here in the United States,” Gene Hugoson, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, told reporters in a conference call. The confirmatory test results may not be back until next week, he said.

CDC: Production of H1N1 flu vaccine lagging

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) — As more people are getting sick from the H1N1 flu virus , the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting that the production of the H1N1 vaccine is slower than expected. The CDC had hoped that about 40 million doses of H1N1, or swine flu, vaccine would be available by the end of October. First confirmed case of swine flu virus in Palau (Saipan Tribune)

The World Health Organization confirmed last weekend the first case of influenza A(H1N1) flu in Palau. This follows the first confirmed case of the virus in Guam a day earlier.
