Pigs in Minnesota may have contracted H1N1 virus

Three pigs that were displayed during the Minnesota State Fair have tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus, health officials said Friday. “This, of course, may be the first indication that it is present in some swine here in the United States,” Gene Hugoson, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, told reporters in a conference call. The confirmatory test results may not be back until next week, he said.

CDC – Novel H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) and You

Novel H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. Other countries, including Mexico and Canada, have reported people sick with this new virus.

H1N1: Two more in Beijing, another in HK (The Malaysian Insider)

BEIJING, May 23 — China reported two confirmed cases of H1N1 flu in Beijing late yesterday, bringing the total to seven nationwide, but officials in the Chinese capital city said the pandemic alert level will not be increased.
